It has been a privilege
and an honor to serve on the Lawrence City Commission for the
last four years, and as Mayor in 2005/2006. When I ran for office
in 2003 we set out these priorities: a liveable city, affordable
housing, a sensible tax abatement policy, and community control
of development. Although there is still a lot of work to do,
I think we have made real progress toward those goals.
If I am re-elected I intend to continue
to work toward these goals. I also want to continue our efforts
to create good jobs, to strengthen our commitment to protecting
our environment, and to make sure that we do a better job of
living up to our ideals of tolerance and diversity. I think
we have a better city when we are inclusive, and I have tried
to reach out to all parts of our community.
During my time on the commission, I
have tried to listen, to be fair, and to make decisions that
are in the best long-term interest of the city as a whole. If
you think I have done a good job of that, I would appreciate
your support in the upcoming city commission election.
Lawrence is a great community, thanks
to the efforts of many, many people, past and present, and I
think that Lawrence can be an even greater community in the
future. I look forward to working with you to build a city our
grandchildren will love.
Sincerely,
